HISTORICAL NOTE

Interesting aviation notes I have read.

The Graf Zeppelin (dirigible) gross weight was 236 tons.
Payload 12 tons (usually mail) and 20 passengers.
Crew about 40.
Cruise at 80 mph.
Range before refueling (diesel engines) and re-gassing (hydrogen for lifting) was up to 10,000 miles and / or 12 days.
In 1929 it flew around the world in 21 days with just 3 stops: Germany, Japan, US.
Cruising altitude about 1000 feet.
Regular route Germany to Brazil, 10 days one way.
Flew across the Atlantic Ocean 144 times.
Total miles flown: over 1,000,000
5 days to cross the Atlantic from Germany to the United States.

For airplanes, an around-the-world speed record was set in 1931; 8 days 15 hours;
by Wiley Post and navigator Harold Gatty.

Measuring distance
The width of your index finger is 1/100 radians, if you extend your hand.
A most accurate measurestick is multistory houses. If three floors are one fingerwidth high, you are exactly one kilometer away.
In kapping world: If the width of my 1.5 meter flowform is half fingerwidth, I am at 300 meters.
