Amherst Junction 2008

Amherst Junction 2008

Looking west from above Amherst Junction
(not to be confused with Amherst, 3 miles away; and Nelsons Siding 4, miles away)

Pretty good picture for a stitch of two together. Rare to get this on a windy day from a panoramic kite camera picture.
.
I forgot to label the four-lane US hiway 10 on the horizon,
under the word West.

.

GBW r-o-w is Tomorrow River Trail that runs all the way to Plover,
and includes a horse trail in grass alongside the limestone.

.

DEPOT label refers to location of two-story depot.

Some foundations were visible,
somewhere east of this cross over.

I had a few rail fans drive through Amherst Junction
and asked where's the crossing,
while parked on the street right over it.

.

My crude map from 2004, not to scale, no details

.

. . . . Looking east at the crossing. SOO Line tracks often in shadows in the afternoon in the cut.

.

.

signal box for 'new' track up the hill that connects mainline with existing GBW track to fertilizer buildings.

mast rusted and fell over.

West of Tomorrow River Trail parking.

.

.

poor panoramic stitch looking east.

farm co-operative fertilizer buidlings on the left. .

. . . . larger view, scroll right and back left.

.

In the middle of the picture,
somewhere east of run-around siding beyond trees,
the Tomorrow River Trail starts east again.
I don't know the exact route to get past the rails between the two sections of trail.

Notice, no trains, this is the quiet time in the afternoon.
And there is a maintainer working a few miles west of here.
