SW combo

SW combo

Jan 7 Wednesday 2009
I heard the horn at noon during a trip to the Post Office,
a little earlier than I would expect the Commercial job to arrive in Plover.

Along came two lone SW's to pick up some cars left by some earlier Commercial job
(I don't know if they were cars from the morning or yesterday, but they were on the main and surely not there for long because the Plover Patrol should have needed that track during the night?)

I haven't seen two switchers together here since about 1999.
And those were in WC paint. I didn't find the images in my digital index, so I guess that would be on a slide and it's too time consuming to dig that up.

.

.

And nearby was the current Commercial job WC 3024, working the Whiting paper mill.
They are pulling cars clear of Whiting juntion and then pushing to the mill.
Crossing Plover River south of Whiting, Wis.
Rarely do I see them this far south while switching the paper mill.

(hazy day 23 degrees F)

.

.

and ten minutes later the SW's come north over the trestle

.

.

.

On the P-line, almost back to the Stevens Point yard

.

.

.

We've had 30 inches of snow (a record for December) and two rains.
On the ground is 15 inches with a 1/4 inch ice crust on top.
Have to break the sharp edges of crust when walking.
