Plover River Trestle

Plover River Trestle

this is the Plover River south of Whiting, Wisconsin.
Mile post 2 on the railroad.
Two miles south of Stevens Point, and two miles north of Plover.

I am exploring while the ice is still solid enough on the Plover River where it meets the Wisconsin River.

Lots of ice fishermen have been here, and even one open water fisherman this day.

Without the ice, there would be little room to fly a kite.
Unless I used a boat. But that would be an adventure in itself flying a kite from a boat.

The Wisconsin River is just beyond the bridges, and it usually has some open water here all year.

.
the Commercial job ran north from Plover in the early afternoon.

WC 3024.

.

The wind picks up just enough to get the kite and camera up, but being a dark day the shutter speed is slow and many pictures were blurred.
The junction to the paper mill is in the upper left of the picture.
The curve to the right (east) goes toward Stevens Point.

.

These cars were stored in Plover, and will be switched into the paper mill at Whiting.

.
After the train is pulled off the trestle, the B and B gang moves in.
I think they are installing a second grate walkway.
The other side got one about 3 (?) years ago.
.

.

Scaffolding and jacks.

.

.

I like the remote look of the next picture, it could be in the wilds of upper Michigan if I didn't tell you where.
