| This page has a variety of railroad information about the former crossing area of four railroads on the west side of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. |
I start with one picture of the WC / CN track coming from the south alongside Highway 34.
(Would you like to see 5 bright yellow UP engines coming around here? I did a year ago, but not from this height. I was driving south on the overpass and didn't have a camera ready as I popped over the top and they were moving along right smartly here.)
.
This is northwest of downtown Wisconsin Rapids, west of the river.
The west side Shopping Mall is in view at the upper left of the picture.
The intersection of Highway 13 and 34 is in the picture.
.
Used to be Milw, Soo Line, and CNW in parallel here before the highway was re-built into 4 lanes.
A little brick depot still stands, barely visible in this picture. It was a replacement for some Milw Road facility that was removed when the highway was moved.

Yard is in upper left of picture.
Former Soo and CNW. Now WC / CN
Squint to see the Yard office just beyond Dura Beauty Lane, left of the tracks. .
GBW crossed Soo and CNW.
It's a faint line of snow from left to right, just beyond the white tank cars.
.
.
Looking northwest, similar to the above picture.
On the left (west) is Corenso, owned by Stor Enso of Finland.
It wasn't sold when the paper mill was sold to New Page.
They recycle cardboard and make the 1/2 inch thick by 6 inch or more diameter tubes that are inside of large rolls of paper.
|
The Pink Restaurant doesn't show it's pretty color here. It's in the middle of the picture. Open weekdays (til 2 pm?), west of the Yard Office. Look it up on Dura Beauty Lane. The tall narrow white building near the horizon is Thiele Clay. |

Highway 34. Pulp mill. Wood yard.
Milw Road R-O-W is gone.

pulp mill. WC 1560 is by the River at the right side of this picture. Tracks have a 90-degree grade crossing there. The Biron mill shows on the horizon. .

Look on my index page for more about Wisconsin Rapids.
It's not always linked from page to page, some of it is years old.
