Bus trip to Milwaukee

.

.

St. Joe's church had a bus trip to Milwaukee to see the Harley-Davidson Museum
and the Titanic exhibit at the Milwaukee Public Museum.

.
We had a few mis-calculations along our route into the River valley and Canal Street area,
which just happened to make the timing just right to see one of the Amtrak scoots that run between Chicago and Milwaukee.
.

.
And I didn't expect to see a colorful locomotive on the rear end of this short train.
Here they are going into the station. Lots of construction is being done in this area.
.

Here's other scenes we passed in the river valley,

.

such as the Lonestar elevator
.

and this hopper just outside their fence.

.

.

St. Mary's cement.

.

The Harley museum is by a city park with nice sidewalks along the river.

.

.

This museum is less than a year old.

There's a bronze statue of Hill Climbing between the museum and the restaurant / gift shop.

It is all built with a 'heavy industrial' look.
Benches are made of steel beams, and the restaurant is full of gears and cycle parts.

.

.

They allow photography both outside and inside,
which allowed me to take pictures to remember some of my favorite bikes.
That's rare for a museum to allow pictures inside.
The lighting was good and I took many hand-held pictures without flash and didn't get many blurrs.

.

.

1936 streamlined bike for a world speed record, something like 120 mph.

.

.

WW 2 sidecar

.

.

1916 sidecar for the US mail.

(Max, why didn't they make this as a right-hand model to drive up to mailboxes?)

.

Wall of engines.

.

They have hundreds more bikes than I've shown here. One of every model they ever made.
And Elvis Presley's bike, and some Evil Knievel stuff.

And upstairs in storage I saw a bicycle labeled H-D. .

.

And there's a variety of a dozen bikes that you can sit on.
Safely braced, so people of any age don't have to use the kick stand on these heavy machines.
